Extinguishing Media: CO2, extinguishing powder or water spray. Fight larger fires with water spray.
Special Firefighting Procedures: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full fire fighting protective clothing when fighting significant-sized fires. Move containers from fire area if it can be done without risk. Use water to keep fire-exposed containers cool.
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard: Lithium nitrate is an oxidizer and its heat of reaction with reducing agents of combustibles may cause ignition. Promotes fire. Thermal decomposition may emit toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides and metal oxides.
V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effects of Overexposure:
To the best of our knowledge the acute and chronic toxicity of this product is not fully known. Large amounts of lithium compounds may cause vomiting, diarrhea, ataxia, intestinal irritation, kidney injury, central nervous systme depression and a drop in blood pressure. Central nervous system effects may include slurred speech, blurred vision, dizziness, sensory effects fsuch as tremor, aaxia, weakness, clonus and hyperactive reflexes. Lithium can cause kidney damage, gastrointestinal disturbances, fatigue, dehydration, weight loss, dermatological effects and thyroid damage. Lithium ion has shown teratogenic effects in rats and mice.
Small doses of nitrates may cause weakness, general depression, headache and mental impairment. Larger doses may cause dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, convulsions and collapse.
Acute Effects:
Inhalation: Irritation of upper respiratory tract
Ingestion: Gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Skin: Irritation
Eye: Irritation
Chronic Effects: Kidney damage, central nervous system depression
Target Organs: GI tract, central nervous system, kidneys
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: None
Carcinogenicity: NTP: No IARC: No EPA: No OSHA: No ACGIH: No
Reproductive Effects: None identified.
EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Prompt action is essential.
INGESTION: CALL A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY!! If conscious, give large amounts of water. Induce vomiting.
SKIN: In case of contact, flush skin with water.
EYE: In case of eye contact, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Incompatibility (Materials to Avoid): Reducing agents, easily oxidized materials, water/moisture, metal powders.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Nitrogen oxides, metal oxide fumes.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.
VII SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES
Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Keep combustibles (wood, paper, oil, etc.) away from spilled material. With clean shovel, carefully place material into clean, dry container, and cover; remove from area. Flush spill area with water.
Waste Disposal Method: Dispose of in accordance with Local, State and Federal Waste Disposal Regulations.
EPA Hazardous Waste Number: DOO1 (Ignitable Waste)
VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: Use suitable respirator when high concentrations are present.
Ventilation: Chemical fume hood
Eyes: Safety glasses, tightly sealed goggles, full face protection
Gloves: Impervious gloves
Protective Equipment: Protective work clothing
IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Keep container tightly sealed. Store in cool, dry place in tightly closed containers. Store away from flammable substances. Store away from reducing agents. Do not store together with acids. Ensure good ventilation at the workplace. Prevent formation of dust.
Other Precautions: This product is hygroscopic. It can reduce the ignition temperature of flammable substances. This substance is an oxidizer and its heat of reaction with reducing agents or combustibles may cause igntion.
Work Practices: Quick-drench eyewash and safety shower.
