Extinguishing Media: Use suitable extinguishing media for surrounding material and type of fire.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Firefighters must wear full face, self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Fumes from fire are hazardous. Isolate runoff to prevent environmental pollution.
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard: When cesium tungstate is heated to decomposition, it may emit toxic fumes of cesium, oxides of cesium and tungsten trioxide.
V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effects of Exposure:
To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of cesium tungstate have not been thoroughly investigated.
Cesium compounds may cause hyper-irritability, including spasms, dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and collapse. Chronic ingestion of cesium has been fatal to laboratory animals, possibly due to the replacement of potassium. Chronic exposure also can have blood and neuromuscular effects.
Tungsten compounds may be irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. Animal studies suggest that soluble tungsten compounds have the potential for causing adverse health effects involving the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. These effects have not been observed in humans. Chronic exposure to tungsten compounds may result in permanent lung damage.
Acute Effects:
Inhalation: Inhalation may cause mild to moderate irritation of the respiratory system.
Ingestion: Effects may include spasms, dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and collapse
Skin: May cause irritation, possibly severe.
Eye: May cause burns. Additional effects may include eye damage.
Chronic Effects:
Inhalation: Chronic exposure may result in permanent lung damage.
Ingestion: May affect the circulatory and neuromuscular systems.
Skin: May cause dermatitis.
Eye: No chronic effects recorded.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing respiratory disorders.
Carcinogenicity: NTP: No IARC: No OSHA: No
EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION: Remove to fresh air, keep warm and quiet, give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: If conscious, give 1-2 glasses of milk or water and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately.
SKIN: Remove any contaminated clothing, brush material off of skin, flush with running water, wash carefully with soap and water, seek medical attention.
EYE: Flush with water, lifting upper and lower eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES
Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Wear protective clothing specified in section VIII. Keep unprotected persons away. Ensure adequate ventilation. Vacuum up spill using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA) air filter. Avoid raising dust.
Waste Disposal Method: In accordance with Local, State and Federal Waste Disposal Regulations.
VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection (Specify Type): Use a NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if high concentrations are present.
Ventilation: Handle in a controlled atmosphere. Use local exhaust to maintain concentration at low exposure levels.
Protective Gloves: Impervious gloves
Eye Protection: Safety glasses
Other Protective Equipment: Protective gear suitable to prevent contamination.
IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store in a cool dry area. Store in tightly sealed container. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not get in eyes, on skin or clothing. Do not breathe dust, vapor, mist, or gas. Do not store together with acids. Do not store together with alkalies (caustic solutions). Keep container tightly sealed.
Other Precautions: Material is hygroscopic. Handle in a controlled atmosphere.
Work Practices: Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure at low levels. Use good housekeeping and sanitation practices. Do not use tobacco or food in work area. Wash thoroughly before eating or smoking. Do not blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air. Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing and safety drench shower in work area.
The above information is believed to be correct, but does not purport to be all inclusive and shall be used only as a guide. ESPI shall not be held liable for any damages resulting from handling or contact with the above product.
