Magnesium Oxide Single Crystals will absorb moisture which will damage the surface of the crystals.  To protect the polish from moisture the crystal has been packaged under dry argon gas.

To clean the crystals, soak in alcohol, preferably methanol. The crystals should be held in this solution until ready for film growth. Attempt to use the crystals as soon as possible after cleaning. Avoid steam cleaning, water based cleaning agents and moisture. Use only soft lens gauze to wipe the crystal surface.
