Description: Age-Hardened version of Monel alloy 400 for increased strength and hardness, totally non-magnetic and spark resistant. Small additions of aluminum and titanium are added to form the K-500 alloy with the same corrosion resistance but with much greater strength due to gamma prime formation on aging. Compared to steel, Monel is very difficult to machine as it work-hardens very quickly. It needs to be turned and worked at slow speeds and low feed rates. It is resistant to corrosion and acids, and some alloys can withstand a fire in pure oxygen. Major Applications include pump shafts, doctor-blades and scrapers, oil well tools and instruments, electronic components, springs, valve trim, fasteners and marine propeller shafts.(B) Analysis in Weight Percent:Ni (+ Co) 63.0 min Cu 27.0 - 33.0 Fe 2.0 Mn 1.5 Si 0.5 S 0.01 Al 2.30 - 3.15 Ti 0.35 - 0.85 Mechanical Properties (at Room Temperature):MPa ksi Ultimate Tensile Strength: 1100 160 Yield Strength (0.2% offset): 790 115 GPa 106 psi Elastic Modulus (Tension): 180 26 Elongation in 50mm (2 in): 20% Hardness: 300 HB Physical Properties (at Room Temperature):oC oF Melting Point/Range: 1315 - 1350 2400 - 2460 Curie Temperature: -134 -210 J/kg ⋅ K Btu/lb ⋅ oF Specific Heat: 419 0.100 µm/m ⋅ K µin/in ⋅ oF Average Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 13.7 7.6 W/m ⋅ K Btu ⋅ in/ft2 ⋅ h ⋅ oF Thermal Conductivity: 17.5 121 Electrical Resistivity (nΩ ⋅ m): 615 Density (g/cm3): 8.44 Corrosion Resistance: (A)Sulfuric Acid: 1 Hydrochloric Acid: 2 Hydrofluoric Acid: 1 Phosphoric Acid: 1 Nitric Acid: 3 Organic Acid: 1 Alkalies: 1 Salts: 1 Seawater: 1 Chlorine Cracking: 1 High Temp.
