V.   HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of potassium hexachloroosmate have not been thoroughly investigated and recorded.

Oxidation of osmium compounds may form the volatile and highly irritating osmium (VIII) oxide.  Exposure may cause bronchitis and dermatitis, occular disturbances.  Ingestion may cause heavy metal poisoning.  Irritating to skin and mucous membranes.

CarcinogenicityNTP:  No      IARC:  No      OSHA:  No

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION:  Supply fresh air.  If required, provide artificial respiration.  Keep patient warm.  Seek immediate medical advice.

INGESTION:  Seek immediate medical advice.

SKIN:  Immediately wash with soap and water and rinse thoroughly.  Seek immediate medical advice.

EYES:  Flush eyes with lukewarm water, lifting upper and lower eyelid, for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical advice.
