Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard:  On first exposure to extreme high temperature, very little gas from the binder may ignite briefly.

V.   HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of mica sheet have not been thoroughly investigated and recorded.

Inorganic silicon compounds may be acute inhalation irritants.  Prolonged inhalation may cause pulmonary fibrosis, known as silicosis.

Under normal handling and use, exposure to this material in solid form present few health hazards.  If, however, solid forms are converted to particulates, then both acute and chronic health effects are possible.  Mica dust which produces pneumoconiosis would be present only if material was sanded, sawed, etc.

Acute Effects:

Inhalation:  Dust may cause irritation.

Ingestion:  Harmful if swallowed.

Skin:  Dust may cause irritation.

Eyes:  Dust may cause irritation.

Chronic Effects:  Prolonged exposure to mica dust may cause pneumoconiosis.

Medical Conditions Aggravated By Exposure:  None

Carcinogenicity:  No data

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION:  Remove victim to fresh air, keep warm and quiet, give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

INGESTION:  Give 1-2 glasses of milk or water and induce vomiting, seek medical attention.  Never induce vomiting or give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

SKIN:  Remove contaminated clothing, brush material off skin, wash affected area with mild soap and water.  Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

EYE:  Flush with lukewarm water, lifting upper and lower eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

VI.   REACTIVITY DATA

Stability:  Stable

Conditions to Avoid:  None

Incompatibility (Material to Avoid):  Avoid contact with strong acids, bases or oxidizing agents.

Hazardous Decomposition Products:  Carbon monoxide/dioxide, silicone dioxide, toxic fumes of aromatic hydrocarbons.

Hazardous Polymerization:  Will not occur.

VII.   SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled:  Wear appropriate respiratory and protective equipment specified in section VIII.  Isolate spill area and provide ventilation.  Scoop up or vacuum up spill using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA) air filter and place in a closed container for proper disposal.  Take care not to raise dust.

Waste Disposal Method:  In accordance with Local, State and Federal Waste Disposal Regulations.

VIII.   SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection:  NIOSH approved respiratory for dusting conditions.

Ventilation:  General exhaust is recommended.

Protective Gloves:  Gloves

Eye Protection:  Safety Glasses

Other Protective Clothing or Equipment:  None

IX.   SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling & StorageNo special storage precautions are required for material in solid form.  Store in a cool, dry area.

Other Precautions:  Avoid breathing of and contact with fumes and dust during processing.  Keep away from incompatible materials.

Work Practices:  Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure ata low levels.  Use good housekeeping and sanitation practices.  Do not use tobacco or food in work area.  Wash thoroughly before eating and smoking.  Do not blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air.  Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing, safety drench shower and facilities for washing.

TSCA Listed:  Yes

DOT Regulations:

Hazard Class:        None
